ILB Services

1st: 22/01/11 11:32 Pwllheli ALB was launch to assist a 15mtr 50ton fishing trawler Kasey Marie with 4POB with engine failure 20 miles south of Pwllheli. The ALB was alongside with 1 1/2hrs and a tow was rigged. Due to the very low tides in Pwllheli the casulty vessel would not be able to enter the harbour until 21:30 so it was decided to slow the tow down to 2.5knots. Both vessels entered the Marina after a very long day and the casulty was berthed alongside and the ALB returened to station. This is now the third time Pwllheli Lifeboat has had to launch to assist this vessel in the past 3 months! Wind force 2-3 SW Duration 11hrs

 

2nd 17/04/11 05:02 Pwllheli ALB was launched to assist the fishing trawler Lola K which had suffered steering failure. The vessel with two crew was some 7 miles from Pwllheli when the ALB located them in quite thick fog. The vessel was the escorted back to Pwllheli and towed into the harbour. Also along for the ride where some 6-8 Dolphins which follwed both boats to the harbour entrance. The Lola K was berthed on the sea wall and the ALB then returned to station. Wind 0-1 SW Duration 4hrs

 

3rd 04/06/11 14:07 Whilst both boats where on exercise they where tasked to a 5mtr sports boat with 4 POB. It was thought the vessels engine was on fire some 3 miles east of Pwllheli. Once located it was discovered the fire was extinguished and all persons where safe and well. The ILB towed the vessel back to Pwllheli Marina where it was berthed, the ALB continued with the exercise. Duration 2hrs Wind SW 2-3

 

4th 10/06/11 21:27 Pwllheli ALB was launched to assist a 26ft sailing vessel with 3 POB with engine failure. The vessel was only 1/2 South of the harbour entrance, a tow was rigged and the vessel was bought back to Pwllheli Marina. Duration 1hr Wind N 1-2

 

5th 13/06/11 14:45 ALB launched to a 28ft powerboat with engine failure in Bardsey sound. Abersoch Lifeboat had also launched to the vessel and had began to tow it back to Pwllheli. Once the ALB was on scene the tow was transferred and the ALB towed the casualty back to Pwllheli. Duration 3.5hrs Wind 4-5 SW

 

6th 23/06/11 08:15 ALB launched to a 32ft sailing vessel with power failure. The vessel with 2 crew was located some 5 miles east of the station. A tow was rigged and the vessel was towed back to Pwllheli Marina. Duration 1.5hrs Wind 3-4 WNW

 

7th 30/07/11 22:00 ALB was launched to assist 1 person on a 28ft sailing vessel 1.5mile south of Pwllheli. Once alongside a crew man was put onboard and rigged the tow. The vessel which had engine failure was berthed at Pwllheli Marina at 22:45 and the ALB returned to station. Duration 1.5hrs Wind 2-3 SW

 

8th 31/07/11 14:41 ALB was requested to launch by Holyhead CG to go the aid of a 42ft sailing vessel 15 miles south of Pwllheli. The vessel had suffered mechanical failure after sailing over from America! The ALB was alongside within 1hr and a tow was made fast and both boats headed to Pwllheli. Both boats entered Pwllheli at 19:15 where the casualty was berthed at Pwllheli Marina. Duration 6hrs Wind 4-5 SE

 

9th 30/08/11 18:46 The ALB launched to assist a 36ft sailing boat with 2 POB. The vessel had lost power and with no wind required the assistance of the ALB. The vessel was found 6 miles East of Pwllheli and a tow was rigged and the vessel was bought back to Pwllheli. Both boats entered the harbour at 20:15 and the vessel was berthed at the Marina. Duration 3hrs Wind 0-1 NW

 

10th 24/09/11 13:38 Pwllheli ALB was launched to take over the tow from Abersoch Lifeboat of a 24ft yacht which had lost its rudder with 1POB. The vessels tow was transfered 2 miles south of Pwllheli and Abersoch Lifeboat returned to station. The vessel was the taken to Pwllheli Marina and berthed for the night. Excellent team work again with both Lifeboats. Duration 1hr Wind 2-3 WSW

 

11th 01/10/11 15:07 Pwllheli ALB launched to a 24ft powerboat with 3POB. The vessel had broken down and required the assistance of the Lifeboat, once located 2 miles south of Pwllheli a tow was rigged. Both boats entered the harbour 1hr later and the vessel was berthed at the Marina. Duration 2hrs Wind 0-1 S

 

12th 27/11/11 02:47 Pwllheli ALB was launched in Gale force winds to search for 8 missing crew of the merchant vessel "Swan Land". A mayday call was received from the vessel some 12miles north west off Bardsey Island. Porthdinllaen Lifeboat was also tasked along with rescue 122 helicopter from RAF Valley and another helicopter from Ireland. 1st on scene was R122 who located a life raft with two persons inside who where airlifted to safety. A large search then began in horrendous conditions by both Lifeboats. At first light land based coastguard units where tasked later followed by Abersoch, Trearddur Bay and Holyhead Lifeboats along with 2 other rescue helicopters. Later in the day one casualty was found in the water but sadly was overcome by the conditions. After a fantastic amount of teamwork and extensive 15hr search all the units where stood down due to the failing light . 1st: 23/02/11 07:56 Pwllheli ILB was launched to assist the Police who asked for the lifeboat to attend in the area of the Marina. A search was carried out and the body of a man was found in the water. The ILB crew recovered the casualty and took him to the Marina where the Police and Ambulance Service took charge of the incident.  Wind force 1-2 NW Duration 1hr

 

2nd 15/04/11 08:24 Pwllheli ILB was launched to assist the Police who asked for the lifeboat to attend in the area of the inner harbor and Marina. Clothing was found on the quay and it was thought someone had entered the water. A search was carried out with the help of Abersoch CG, Police and Police Helicopter. After 1.5hrs the search was called off and the ILB returned to station. Wind 1-2 SW Duration 1.5hrs

 

3rd 19/04/11 16:00 Pwllheli ILB launched to assist 3 persons which had been blown out to sea in a small inflatable. The Mother had swam out to assist her son 8 years old and friend 7 years old, but due to the offshore wind was unable to get back to shore. The ILB recovered the mother from the water who was very cold and tiered and both boys where taken from the dinghy safe but shaken. All 3 where then taken back to station for a medical check by North Wales air ambulance crew. Duration 1hr Wind 1-2 N

 

4th 19/04/11 16:30 On leaving the harbour to check the area of the previous call the ILB came across a father and son who had capsized their sailing dinghy. They where unable to get the boat level so the ILB crew assisted them and helped them ashore. Duration 15min Wind 1-2N

 

5th 22/04/11 11:00 Whilst on exercise Pwllheli ILB was requested to search for a possible missing person of the Gimblet Rock Pwllheli after clothes had been found on the rock. A search was carried out but nothing found and it was thought to be a false alarm with good intent Duration 30min Wind 1-2N

 

6th 24/04/11 12:30 ILB launched to a 18ft speedboat thought to have an engine fire. The vessel with 3 POB was 1 mile south of Abererch beach began to produce black smoke from the engine and then stopped, the owner called for assistance. The ILB came alongside and towed the vessel back to Pwllheli harbour where it was lifted out. Duration 1hr Wind 3-4 N

8th 11/06/11 10:41 ILB launched to 1 person and jet ski by Pen Y Chain head. The male had been seen swimming in the water and trying to tow his broken jet ski back to Pwllheli some 4 miles away. The ILB was soon on scene and a tow was rigged the male came aboard the ILB. He was dropped off at the Harbour Masters slipway and the ILB returned to station. Duration 1.5hrs Wind WSW 1-2

 

9th 18/06/11 14:18 ILB launched to 3 persons in the water with a capsized sailing dinghy 200 yards off the Gimblet Rock. The ILB came alongside and assisted the persons to re float the dinghy. Once up they boarded the vessel and the ILB crew towed it back to Abererch beach. Duration 30min Wind NW 3-4

 

10th 25/07/11 15:32 ILB launched to two males on a 26ft speedboat 1 mile south east off Pwllheli. It was understood the vessel had hit something causing the engine to fail, a tow was rigged and the vessel was bought back to Pwllheli. Due to the damage to the vessels outdrive the crew towed the boat to the boatyard where it was recovered from the water. Duration 1hr Wind 2-3 S

 

11th 07/08/11 01:10 ILB launched to reports of a vessel stolen from Pwllheli. After a 3hr search nothing was found and the ILB returned to station. Duration 3hrs Wind 3-4 WSW

 

12th 16/09/11 Pwllheli ILB launched to search for a person in the water in the Marina. On arrival the Male was found in the water holding onto some ropes. A crewman entered the water to assist in getting him out whilst the other 2 crew and members of public also helped. He was suffering from Hypothermia so Paramedics rushed him to hospital. The male had been in the water for nearly 1hr and was very lucky. Duration 1hr Wind 1-2 SW

 

13th 30/09/11 16:20 Pwllheli ILB launched to a dog in the water off the west end of Pwllheli. Once on scene the crew made contact with the owner who gave a rough idea of where the dog was. The ILB crew then went out to sea and began a search, after a short time the dog "Chewie" was found 1/4mile out to sea very tiered. Chewie was bought onboard and taken back to the worried owners. 14th 07/10/11 Whilst on exercise Pwllheli ILB was tasked to assist Criccieth Lifeboats in searching for a missing Kite surfer. The male was located safe and well on the beach, he was looking for his missing board. All boats where stood down. Duration 30min Wind 2-3 N

 

15th 26/11/11 Pwllheli ILB was launched to a 15mtr fishing vessel in the harbour. It was found to be taking on water and an environmental issues could of arrised if the vessel had sunk. The crew took the ALB salvage pump to the vessel and began to pump it out. After 30min of pumping the level of water was low enough for the vessel skipper to start it's own engine and start up the bilge pumps. The crew then returned to station. Duration 1hr Wind 7-8 SW

 

16th 18/12/11 01:09 Pwllheli ILB was launched within 4 minutes of being paged to assist the Police recover 2 persons on the water in the inner harbor Pwllheli. Once on scene the crew where stood down as the persons had been recovered by the Police and Ambulance crew. the crew then returned to station
