Launch: 1

Casualty: 44ft Ketch Sailing Vessel

Description: Launched on service to 44ft sailing vessel with engine failure 6.5 miles W/NW of Bardsey Island. Vessel unable to make headway under sail due to tidal current. A tow was established and vessel safely towed to Pwllheli Harbour.

Casualty: 44ft ketch Sailing Vessel

Description: Pwllheli ALB requested to assist 44ft ketch sailing vessel 8 miles South of Bardsey Island on passage to Holyhead. The vessel had suffered engine failure and was struggling to make headway under sail. A tow was established and vessel safely returned to Pwllheli marina.

Casualty: 42ft Motor Cruiser

Description: Pwllheli ALB launched to assist 42ft motor cruiser with engine failure off Pwllheli harbour entrance. Vessel safely towed to Pwllheli marina.


Launch 4

Time: 05:00

Casualty: 11 meter Yacht

Description: The ALB was launched on service to an 11 meter yacht with a skipper complaining of severe abdominal pains. The yacht was on passage from Holyhead to Fishguard but suffered machinery failure and decided to divert to Pwllheli. As he made his way towards Pwllheli just off St Tudwal Islands the skipper suffered severe abdominal pains and required urgent attention. On arrival at the vessel, 3 crew members, one being a doctor attended to the casualty. The casualty was transferred to the ALB and brought ashore to an awaiting ambulance. The ALB returned to the casualty vessel, established a tow and brought the vessel safely back to Pwllheli marina.

Casualty: 43ft German Yacht

Description: Launched on service to 43 ft german yacht on passage to Pwllheli which had become fouled in fishing gear 1 mile South of Cilan head. On arrival the ALB transferred two crew members who successfully freed the fouled fishing gear. An assessment of the yacht was made and the engine re-started. The yacht was escorted safely back to Pwllheli by The ALB

Casualty: 33 ft racing yacht

Description: Launched to 33 ft racing yacht, with 5 POB which had sustained forestay rigging failure. The vessel had suffered engine failure and fouled its anchor on a local racing mark. The vessel was freed and safely towed back to Pwllheli marina


Launch 7

Casualty: 19ft and 24 ft powerboat

Description: Launched to 19ft and 24ft powerboats aground in the surf. The ILB carried out an assessment and crew members were placed ashore. The vessels were hard aground and it was decided that it would be safer to recover ashore. The vessels were recovered onto a trailer ashore and both the ILB and ALB returned to station.

Casualty: 14 ft Fletcher

Description: Launched to 14ft fletcher with 2 persons on board which had suffered machinery failure. A search was commenced along the shoreline of Aberech beach before proceeding 0.5 Nm offshore to continue a further search. The vessel was located 2 Nm East of Pwllheli harbour and safely towed back to Pwllheli marina.

Casualty: 24ft fishing vessel

Description: Launched to 24 ft fishing vessel with 1 POB which had suffered machinery failure 2.5Nm South East of Gimblet Rock. He was unable to retrieve his anchor, which was buoyed off and a tow established to Pwllheli marina. Vessel was berthed on the fuel pontoon and ALB returned to station.

Casualty: 5 persons stranded in flooded caravans

Description: Launched to assist with flooding at Gimblet Rock Caravan park. 5 Persons rescued from their caravans and brought to a place of safety.  Service in conjunction with Coastguard Rescue teams and Police.

Casualty: 21ft powerboat

Description: launched to assist 21ft powerboat with engine failure. Vessel with 5 POB safely towed to Pwllheli marina.

Casualty: 4 POB in a dinghy

Description: Pwllheli ILB was requested to launch on service by North wales Police to assist 4 males in a tender with improvised propulsion. The 4 males were safely returned to shore.

Casualty: Missing Person

Description: Requested by Holyhead Coastguard to conduct a search within Pwllheli harbour for a missing person, who had been missing since 3am. He was located safe and well at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Service in conjunction with North Wales Police and Coastguard teams.

Casualty: 19ft Cobalt

Description: Launch to assist 19ft Cobalt, with 2 POB which had sustained engine failure 1/2 mile South of Gimblet Rock Pwllheli. A tow was established and the vessel was safely towed to Pwllheli Marina.

Casualty: 21 ft sea ray with 4 POB

Description: Launched to assist 21ft sea ray with mechanical failure, 3/4 nautical mile East of Pwllheli harbour entrance. The owner attempted to tow the vessel to the nearest ski mark by swimming but was unsuccessful and safely made his way back on board. On arrival of the ILB the casualties were assessed and the vessel safely towed back to Pwllheli Marina.

Casualty: 2 persons in the water

Description: Launched on service to reports of 2 persons in difficulty in the water and 1 person in a inflatable craft attempting to rescue. On arrival of the ILB the persons had been successfully recovered to the inflatable craft and were escorted ashore by the ILB. The casualties were assessed and all were well. The ILB safely returned to station.

Casualty: Powerboat with machinery failure and ?body in water

Description: Launched on service to reports of powerboat having suffered mechanical failure following contact with a submerged object thought possibly to be a body. On arrival of the ILB the powerboat successfully re-started its engine and continued with its planned passage, the ILB conducted an expanding box search with no significant finding. It was noted that there was a large number of jelly fish in the area concerned, which could have possibly been the cause.

Casualty: Possible injured person

Description: Launched on service to search for possible injured person following evidence discovered on one of the marina pontoons. The ILB conducted a search of the marina and the inner harbour over a 2hr period. The marina pontoons were searched by coastguard teams, police and marina employees. Following a thorough search no persons were found. The ILB was stood down and returned to station.
